An Environment Canada special weather statement warns of heavy rain in the North and Central Okanagan, Shuswap and into the Kootenays today and tomorrow.

While Kamloops isn’t included in the statement that doesn’t mean it escapes the downpour as five to 10 millimetres or rain are expected in the city today, June 13.

The rain is coming from a low pressure centre over Montana that’s moving into southern Alberta and B.C. today, with 20 to 40 mm of rain expected before it eases off to light rain Tuesday afternoon.

“There is some uncertainty associated with the exact trajectory of the low and this will be a factor impacting the amount of rain in each region,” the weather warning says.

The system comes with winds gusting to 40 km/h.

The Environment Canada's forecast calls for 10 to 15 mm of rain in Kelowna and Vernon today and another 5 to 10 mm tomorrow. Penticton has a 40% chance of showers later today before rain sets in on Tuesday.

With the rain comes cooler temperatures with highs in the Kelowna and Vernon of 16 Celsius today and 14 C Tuesday. It is expected to be a couple of degrees cooler in Penticton.

Kamloops is forecast to have highs of 17 today and 19 on Tuesday.

The forecast for the rest of the week shows continued unsettled weather with a mix of sun, cloud and showers. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 20s starting on Wednesday.

Normal daytime high temperatures for this time of year are 23 C in the Okanagan and 25 C in Kamloops.
