Police investigate collision involving Osoyoos cyclist

Osoyoos RCMP are investigating a Monday night collision of a cyclist in Osoyoos.

OSOYOOS - A cyclist was struck in Osoyoos on Highway 97 Monday evening and police are looking for an additional driver who was at the scene.

The cyclist Michael Geoffrey Holmes, 52, of Osoyoos, was lying on the road at the time he was struck by a Mazada 626 sedan sometime before 9:55 p.m.  He has since died.

Osoyoos RCMP have already spoken to the sedan's driver and occupants. The vehicle was headed north and stopped after hitting the cyclist. Occupants were co-operative with investigators. The collision took place in a rural agricultural area with no lighting. The male was deceased at the scene and was wearing dark clothing while riding in an unlit rural agricultural area. He was not equipped with bicycling safety gear at the time.

The police want to identify and speak with the driver and occupants of a light coloured SUV with black roof racks seen traveling north shortly after the impact. Investigators need to speak to this driver in order to determine what if any involvement they may have had prior to the Mazda sedan striking the man.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the South Okanagan Traffic Services at 250-499-2250 or the Osoyoos RCMP at 250-495-7236.
