Police dive teams return to Kal Lake in search of missing man

Kalamalka Lake

VERNON - Police teams are focussing efforts on Kalamalka Lake as they search for a man missing since June 27.

Curtis Wilson, 24, was last seen with his friend Shane Letkeman, 32, who was found dead in the lake June 28. Wilson’s family reported him missing last week, and police launched a full scale search for him by air, land and water. Now, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the search is being focussed on the lake.

“All indications on this file right now point to the likelihood this individual is in Kal Lake. There is nothing they have been able to determine to indicate otherwise,” Molendyk says.

Police dive teams returned to the water Monday, July 6, to socur the water around Cosens Bay. The RCMP is asking the public to stay away from any police boats in the area.

Police and search and rescue teams searched the Kal Park area several days ago, but were unable to turn anything up. Investigators also followed up on the vehicle Wilson was driving, which was found parked in the area.

“(Police) are doing all the usual steps we would do in investigating a missing person. All indications are pointing to the lake,” Molendyk says. “We will continue to search for the next while until they feel they’ve exhausted all aspects of the search.”

Molendyk admits what happened remains ‘a bit of a mystery.’
