Police arrest man with gun after surrounding Vernon home

VERNON – A 44-year-old man is facing multiple firearms charges after he was holed up in a home in Vernon with a gun last night.

RCMP say at approximately 10 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 15, officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of 11 Avenue to a report of distraught man who was allegedly armed with a long gun.

Police responded and were met by other residents who had escaped the home in the Middleton Mountain area, according to an RCMP media release. Officers could hear a man inside yelling.

After police surrounded the home, the man walked out unarmed and was taken into custody. No one was hurt during the incident.

A 44-year-old Vernon man is facing multiple firearms charges and is scheduled to appear in court today, Feb. 16.

"Any incident involving a report of a firearm is of highest priority for the RCMP and officers responded to the call immediately and with appropriate action,” Const. Kelly Brett says in the release.
