KELOWNA – Less than a week after they were set up, Kelowna’s Pianos in the Park are filling the downtown streets with beautiful music.
Videos of people playing the pianos have flooded social media, including one by local musician James Elser, who covered Elton John’s Your Song in front of Rotary Centre for the Arts. The video was shot and uploaded by photographer Andrew T. Barton.
It was shared from his personal Facebook page more than 260 times.
Barton also filmed a young man named Eric Disero playing the piano near the downtown sails.
Pianos in the Park was created by Festivals Kelowna, with sponsorship from Disney Interactive and Keystone Music. On June 11 they unveiled five brightly painted pianos at five locations around downtown Kelowna.
Festivals Kelowna spokesperson and city councillor Ryan Donn hopes the pianos will liven up the downtown core, and help foster an atmosphere of creativity and community spirit.
The five pianos are in City Park tunnel, near Jim Stewart Park, behind the Kelowna courthouse, next to the Rotary Centre for the Arts and at the Busk Stop on Bernard Avenue.
