Two local business women are teaming up to bring Kamloops a pop-up vegan sundae bar this month.

Owner of AhhYaY Wellness Café Natalie Peace-Young is excited to be partnering with local chef Kaity Lou Clement to create a soft-serve, plant-based sundae bar.

"The reason we're running it is the vegan ice cream market is definitely underserved in this city," Peace-Young said.

AhhYaY has offered vegan soft-serve in the past with rave reviews.

"It was (Clement's) idea to do a pop-up where she would make all kinds of really beautiful toppings," she said. "We'll do some fun sundaes that will make use of her expertise… and also serve the market here in the city in a unique way."

The soft serve is coconut based, with a subtle flavour that Peace-Young said won't be overpowering.

"We think so often of healthy food tasting like it's healthy… like very bland," she said. "Our goal really is just to make it taste amazing."

AhhYaY's philosophy is to focus on whole foods and make sure their nutritiously designed foods also taste amazing.

Peace-Young explained that teaming up with Clement is a perfect match, as they share very similar values.

Clement is a TRU alumnus with ten years of professional cooking experience, and an interest in plant-based cooking. Earlier this month she opened her first pop-up, Sprouted Soul, to serve unique, plant-based savoury items and was completely sold out by the end of the night.

The sundae bar pop-up will be hosted at AhhYaY Wellness Café on July 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until supplies run out.

Some flavours coming to the menu include: Nuts About Chocolate, Tropical Island Delight, Ch-Ch-Cherry Bomb and Strawberry Rhubarb Tart.

There will also be affogatos available, which are a shot of Cherry Hill espresso poured over soft-serve ice-cream.
