FORT MCMURRAY, Alta -Tyson Jost loves playing in his home province, as the Vees super-rookie scored twice on Sunday, as the Penticton Vees remained perfect at the Western Canada Cup with a 6-0 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
Connor Chartier scored twice in the third and Mitch Newsome and Dante Fabbro picked up goals in the first and second period respectively, April 26.
Hunter Miska was sharp in net, as he stopped all 23 shots he faced for the shutout and was named the Vees’ Player of the Game.
Brett Lewchuk, starting in place of 20-year-old Zach Fortin, was admirable in defeat, stopping 40 of 46 shots steered his way.
Jost, who calls Leduc, Alberta, home was coming off a hat-trick in the Vees tournament opener Saturday, and followed that up by scoring twice in the first and his first came just 1:51 into the game. Pat Newell picked the pocket of an Oil Barons defenseman behind their net and found Jost out front for the one-timer.
Dante Fabbro picked up his first point of the tournament when he finished off a four-on-two rush in the MOB zone. Serratore entered the zone and dropped the puck for Fabbro and he wired it inside the far-post at 5:12.
Jost then made it 3-0 just 31-seconds later when he ripped a one-timer past Lewchuk on the short-side. Demico Hannoun fired the puck across to Jost, who leaned into the shot from the right-circle.
The Oil Barons tried to get back into the game early in the second but MOB forward Adam Durkee had a goal taken away by Miska. The puck was centered in front for Durkee but his shot was knocked down by Miska’s glove after the Vees’ goaltender dove across the crease.
Mitch Newsome was the only player to light the lamp in the middle stanza, as he picked the corner late. Newsome walked in off the wall and fired the puck over Lewchuk’s glove at 17:17.
Chartier finished off the Vees’ scoring in the third with a pair of goals and both came inside the final five-minutes. Chartier made it 4-0 at 15:22 on the Vees’ third power-play of the night. Chartier took the pass on the goal-line, spun in front and roofed it far-side for his third in two games.
Chartier then bagged his second of the frame on a great tic-tac-toe passing play in the Fort McMurray zone. Dakota Conroy found Steen Cooper in the middle and he quickly fired down low to Chartier for the tap in at the side of the net; his fourth coming at 18:30.

The Vees run their record to a perfect 2-0 and are atop of the standings after Day 2 of the 2015 Western Canada Cup. Tyson Jost now has five goals and six points in two games; he had 10 goals in 22 BCHL playoff games. Chartier, Jost, Mike Lee and Dante Fabbro all finished with two points in the win.
