Penticton is setting up a massive light tunnel as part of its holiday events.

The city is installing a 170 ft tunnel made with 30,000 lights for ‘Magic on Main Street,’ a combination of the Santa Claus parade and downtown Light Up events this Sunday, Dec. 3.

The lights are in the tunnel in Gyro Park and will light it up as part of the city’s holiday decoration reveal.

The city has partnered with the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association to organize ‘Magic on Main Street,’ this Sunday with the parade beginning at 4:30 p.m. from White Avenue along Main Street to Lakeshore Drive, ending with the light up reveal at Gyro Park at 6 p.m.

“As a city, we’re really working hard to create a winter vibe and intensity that matches up with the summer feel – and this lighted tunnel fits the bill,” Jeff Plant, the city’s sport and event supervisor said. “This is one of a few surprises we will be revealing during the official light up this Sunday, creating something fun downtown for the holidays. It kicks off with Magic on Main Street event, but it’s staying up for the first annual winter festival coming in January. It’s designed to warm you up when it’s a little cold outside.”

“The parade will involve dozens of floats, decorated with lights, cruising down Main Street. Families are encouraged to join the parade procession down to Gyro Park, which will be decked out with family-friendly activities, live music and a mini market, with a heated tent and outdoor patio heaters. The official Light Up reveal will take place at 6 p.m., with new light displays and surprises,” the city said on its website.
