A Penticton man who passed out in a running vehicle found himself in trouble after the police went to check on him.

It happened yesterday, Sept. 21, around 9 a.m. after somebody reported the man and his vehicle to police, according to an RCMP press release.

A frontline officer arrived at Amherst Street and Rosetown Avenue to find a 34-year-old man slumped over the steering wheel while the engine was running. The officer spotted numerous illegal drugs and paraphernalia inside the cab of the vehicle so the man was arrested under suspicion of drug-impaired driving.

Upon searching the man’s vehicle, police found weapons, drugs including morphine, LSD, magic mushrooms, contraband cigarettes, and a large amount of Canadian cash.

“This is good example of how the general public can help our officers locate and disrupt criminal activity in our community by simply witnessing and reporting it,” Const. James Grandy said in the release.

The man, who’s a resident of Penticton, faces numerous charges which have yet to be approved by Crown. The driver’s name won’t be made public unless charges are approved, RCMP said.
