Penticton man drives into oncoming traffic to evade police

A man who evaded the Penticton RCMP in his vehicle ended up getting arrested the next day.

The Penticton man was seen driving in the city by plainclothes officers on May 3 and they tried to stop him but he allegedly didn’t stop and he fled at a high rate of speed, according to an RCMP press release.

The Penticton RCMP does not specify why they attempted to stop him.

While being pursued by police, the man "was observed to run a stop sign and drive into oncoming traffic in order to evade police,” Penticton Const. Dayne Lyons said in the release.

“Witnesses had come forward to confirm almost being struck.”

When officers located the man the next day he was arrested without incident.

Charges have been approved on two counts against Nicholas Desrochers for dangerous operation and flight while pursued by peace officer, according to the police.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
