PENTICTON - A local winery is a finalist for the Pacific Entrepreneur Of The Year 2013 contest.
Ernst and Young, an international accounting group, put Painted Rock Winery of Penticton on its finalist list for the winery's job creation efforts. The group also called Painted Rock "an ultra-premium Okanagan estate vineyard/winery" that competes on the international stage.
This is the 20th year the accounting group has recognized entrepreneurs. An Ernst and Young report found new jobs come from entrepreneurs who represent 66 per cent of job creation. Big corporations and government come in second for job creation. Entrepreneurs are also the ones providing youth the most jobs.
"There's no denying the impact entrepreneurs have on job creation," contest program director Ron Voyer said.
The Pacific winners will be announced at a gala on Oct. 4. The overall winner will represent the region at the national gala held in Toronto on Nov. 27.
