KAMLOOPS – If summer construction hasn’t affected your commute yet, then get prepared for the next three weeks.

The the south exit ramp to Summit Drive will be closed as of Monday, July 27 until approximately mid-August. This is the newest phase of construction on the bridge project, which began April 20. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 22.

The ramp’s deck joints will be replaced. It will be stripped then repaved, and repairs made to concrete where required.

“Three weeks is actually a very short window for all of the work that needs to be completed on the ramp,” Jen Fretz, director of public works, says.

During the closure, detour signage will be in place directing all southbound traffic through the downtown. Large trucks will be confined to a route down Seymour Street then out to the Highway. All other traffic can take First Avenue as a detour.

“We appreciate everyone's patience on this project to date,” Fretz says, adding drivers can expect delays and asks residents to adjust their routes accordingly

When finished, by October 2015, the bridge will be resurfaced and have a new pedestrian sidewalk and lighting.
