KAMLOOPS - While construction is moving forward on the Overlanders Bridge, the latest lane closure will add to the traffic delays over the next four weeks.
Starting at 6 a.m. Friday morning, crews closed the Fortune Drive overpass and the northbound off ramp.
Crews have also adjusted the Leigh Road and Fortune Drive traffic signal. Vehicles travelling north will turn left, with southbound vehicles will turn right.
Traffic control will be on both sides of the bridge — near the Tranquille Road entry ramp and the turn signal on the south side.
To safely merge, Kamloops city staff advise drivers to use the ‘zipper merge technique.’ Drivers stay in their lanes right up until the merge point and take turns with other drivers to safely transition into the lane.
While this portion of construction is expected to conclude after a month, the overall project completion date is October.
To stay up to date on traffic flow, the city installed a live webcam feed of the bridge, while the Ministry of Transportation added four cameras on the Halston Connector. For regular social media updates on the bridge, follow #kammute.
