Overdose warning issued in South Okanagan

Drug users in the South Okanagan are being warned of a strong batch of 'down' that’s being sold.

The bright green or grey powder is being sold as fentanyl and contains high concentrations of fentanyl, xylazine and bromazolam, according to a drug alert issued by Interior Health.

The alert remains in effect until April. 27.

In one sample, the drug appears bright green and in another it is grey.

The health authority says it presents a high risk of a fatal overdose, and anybody who does overdose on it may not respond to naloxone.

"Start low and go slow," Interior Health advises.
