Osoyoos Indian Band Chief Clarence Louie is blunt when he talks about racism, and he’s sure to delve right into the subject at an upcoming talk in Penticton.

Having recently authored the book Rez Rules: My Indictment of Canada's and America's Systemic Racism Against Indigenous People, Louie will be at Okanagan College in Penticton, March 24, to talk about it and to answer questions from the audience. He'll also be available to sign copies of his book.

“Chief Clarence Louie is one of the most recognized First Nations leaders in Canada, known for his passionate voice and vision,” Okanagan College English professor Francie Greenslade said in a press release.

“As he says in his new book, Rez Rules, reconciliation starts with the truth. His visit to Okanagan College offers a rare opportunity for those of us living and working in syilx territory to hear his candid truth firsthand.”

Louie was first elected chief in 1984 at the age of 24. Among the many major projects completed under his leadership are the Wine Village, the Oliver Correctional Centre, and the Area 27 racetrack.

The event is scheduled for March 24 at 7 p.m. in room PC 113 in the Centre for Excellence building on Okanagan College's Penticton campus. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Attendance will be limited to 60 people.
