LUMBY - Emergency crews were called to two suspicious fires at the same house Tuesday night in Lumby.

Police were notified of the first fire just before 11 p.m. on April 10 at a house in the 170 block of Brookfield Road in Lumby, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a release.

The fire was extinguished quickly by the Lumby and District Fire Department, but not before the home sustained extensive smoke damage, Brett says. The sole occupant was able to escape with only a minor physical injury and was transported to the nearest medical facility for treatment.

At approximately 3 a.m., police and fire were called back to the same residence where fire had fully engulfed the home, Brett says. The fire was once again extinguished, although the home was further damaged.

“At this time, the RCMP are deeming both fires to be suspicious and both remain under investigation at this time,” Brett says. “The home was not occupied at the time of the second fire.”

Police are seeking any information in regards to the two fires and if you have not already spoken to police you are asked to contact the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-2151. You may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by leaving a tip online. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information that leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
