A Kelowna prolific offender, who cut off his tracking device and went on the run, was caught after he was found passed out in a vehicle in Peachland.

Police had advised the public a week ago that prolific offender John Michael Aronson might be heading back to the Okanagan after he removed his ankle monitor and left a halfway house in Surrey.

A member of the public called police saying there were two people passed out in a vehicle in Peachland, according to an RCMP media release.

An RCMP officer headed to the site and immediately recognized Aronson. He was arrested along with a female passenger and they are currently in custody awaiting their court appearance.

"The officer, along with a member of the public who made the initial report, took a very dangerous individual off our streets and for that we are extremely grateful,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Aronson made headlines in 2019 after he was shot by the RCMP and had to be taken down by dogs following a road rage incident.

He has dozens of criminal charges and multiple convictions.
