LONDON - Martha McCabe of Toronto finished fifth in the women's 200-metre breastroke and Sinead Russell of Burlington, Ont., made it into the semifinal of the 200 backstroke at the Olympic Games.
A day after winning a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle, Brent Hayden of Mission, B.C., tied for 14th in the men's 50-metre semifinal and did not advance.
Russell, 19, claimed the eighth and final berth in the women's backstroke by finishing third in her heat. She'll swim the final Friday.
McCabe was a bronze medallist in last year's world championship.
The 22-year-old was just over three and a half seconds back of gold medallist Rebecca Soni of the U.S., who broke her own world record.
