A Kelowna cop charged in relation to a violent wellness check will plead not guilty to assault.

Const. Lacy Browning was charged with one count of assault after a video was released showing footage of an RCMP officer, later identified as Browning, dragging then UBC Okanagan student Mona Wang down a hallway and treating her roughly during a wellness check.

Browning was charged with assault following an internal Kelowna RCMP investigation, a year after the incident took place.

Browning’s defence lawyer Cait Fleck confirmed Browning is entering a not guilty plea.

A lawsuit filed against Browning by Wang was settled out of court.

Wang gained national attention in 2020 after the video surfaced.
