VAL THORENS, France - Chris Del Bosco won gold at the Val Thorens FIS Skicross World Cup today, but it might not be enough for him to qualify for the Sochi Games.

The race was halted after the first round of heats due to strong winds, and Del Bosco was awarded top spot based on his second-place effort in the qualification round and victory in his opening heat.

Del Bosco, who finished fourth at the Vancouver Games in 2010, essentially needs a podium appearance this week to book his ticket for Sochi.

However, it remains unclear whether the results from a weather-affected race will count towards Olympic qualification.

The final opportunity to qualify will come Friday in the second of back-to-back World Cups at the same venue.

Sanna Luedi of Switzerland took gold in the women's race. Marielle Thompson of Whistler, B.C., was the top Canadian in fourth place.
