An Oliver man who failed to to appear for a court date in Penticton earlier this week had a warrant issued for his arrest, and an arrest was made, but the wrong person was arrested.

The warrant was issued for Scotty Lee Jensen, born 1983, who was facing seven charges including robbery, flight from police and possession of stolen property, all related to offences allegedly committed on March 15.

When officers went to arrest him after being a no-show at court, they succeeded in arresting a man who identified himself as Scotty Jensen.

But while at the RCMP detachment in Oliver, officers came to the conclusion that the man they arrested was not in fact Scotty Jensen.

“What we’re asking for now is a public interest warrant to get the correct, actual Scotty Jensen,” Crown counsel told the judge today, March 17.

A new warrant was granted.

Oliver RCMP Staff Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth was asked if his officers conducted the arrest, if somebody identified themselves as Scotty Jensen who wasn't Scotty Jensen, and if that person is in trouble.

“Yes, yes and yes,” he said in an email.
