WEST KELOWNA – The bomb squad from Vancouver travelled to West Kelowna last night to blow up some old sticks of dynamite.
RCMP say the explosives were in a backpack found by a resident of the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park at 1860 Boucherie Rd. while he was on a hike.
The man brought the backpack home to the trailer park where he says he discovered the dynamite and called police around 5 p.m., May 15.
Emergency officials evacuated the residents from the 100 units at the trailer park to the Westbank Lions Hall until the bomb squad arrived and safely “disposed” of the sticks of dynamite, RCMP say.
Residents were back in their homes by midnight.
