An Okanagan rink will be travelling to Ontario at the end of March to represent B.C., at the Canadian Masters Women’s Curling Championships.
Danielle Shaughnessy of West Kelowna, Kelowna’s Dawn Everest, Penticton’s Marilou Richter and Cory Atchison of Cloverdale qualified for the nationals at the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge last weekend.
“I hate to say at this age, but I love that even at a 60-plus age, we have these national events that we can still compete at. A lot of us have grown up competing in ladies and seniors and now masters, so it's pretty exciting for us,” the rink's skip Shaughnessy told iNFOnews.ca.

Shaughnessy said she loves participating in a sport where the games are friendly and the players cheer for each other.
“We compete against each other, but we always support each other. Whoever the winner is, we always support them when they go to these big events," she said.
The team is also excited to be a role model for good sportsmanship.
“I think that regardless of your age, I think that you can be a role model for newer curlers and also set the stage for up-and-coming competitive curlers to see how far you can take it,” she said.
She said the team is working hard to be physically and mentally ready for the national championship.
“These events... can be gruelling on your body. They can be mentally exhausting, as well as physically exhausting, so our team really puts a lot of effort into being prepared in both those areas,” Shaughnessy said.
The Canadian Masters Women’s Curling Championships will be held from March 30 to April 6 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
The 2025 Montana's Brier got underway Friday, Feb. 28 at Prospera Place in Kelowna. Go here for tickets.
