RCMP in Salmon Arm had some noteworthy interactions with people in May including vandalism and fleeing from police.

Officers were called by a business owner who reported a broken window and a kicked in door, but said nothing was stolen. Police received the report around 6 a.m. on May 16, according to a press release from RCMP.

When officers reviewed the surveillance footage they identified a suspect and eventually charged Leonard Gaze for mischief under $5000. Gaze has been remanded until May 30.

Later in the month police received a report about a woman who was, “strung out, screaming, climbing trees, and taking off her clothing,” at 7 p.m. on May 19, according to the release.

Officers arrived at the scene in the 3000-block of 11 Avenue and found a woman half-dressed and intoxicated. Police arrested her and brought her to a cell to safely sober up. The woman was given a ticket for public intoxication and released in the morning.

The following day, May 20, police were patrolling the Industrial Park area and saw a Dodge Ram pickup truck with freshly spray painted parts around 10 a.m. When the officers investigated they discovered the truck had been stolen in Kamloops the day before.

Officers arrested the man in the truck for possession of stolen property and released him with a court date. The truck was towed so it could be returned to the owner.

Salmon Arm RCMP saw a black Saturn Vue that had previously fled from police during an attempted traffic stop at 10 a.m. on May 22. Police managed to stop the vehicle in an alleyway on 5 Street to prevent it from fleeing again.

The Saturn’s driver was a 30-year-old woman, and when police told her she was under arrest she refused to open the door, gave them a fake name, and claimed she had no identification on her.

Eventually the driver opened the door and was identified by an officer. Police arrested the woman for driving while prohibited, obstructing a peace officer, and she received several tickets for no insurance, failing to stop for police, and having studded tires during a restricted time. The Saturn was impounded by police, and RCMP released the woman with a court date.
