A Coldstream woman who had careless driving charges against her dropped following a crash that killed a four-year-old girl in Calgary, has been fined $2,000 for drunk driving in Vernon.
At the Vernon courthouse Aug. 21, Tanis Sunnie Lambert, born 1978, was fined $2,000 and banned from driving for one year after she pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol concentration over .08. She was caught driving drunk driving in Vernon Dec. 20, 2018. Lambert originally faced two charges, but the Crown stayed the other charge of driving while impaired.
In May 2016, Lambert was involved in an incident in Calgary where a truck she was driving struck and killed four-year-old Avayah (Avi) Toulon who was crossing the street with her parents Craig and Samantha Toulon.
According to the Calgary Herald, she was charged with careless driving following the incident, but the Crown withdrew the charge at the beginning of the second day of trial after they concluded there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction.
The girl's parents launched a civil case against Lambert which was settled out of court in May 2018.
Nine months after the Vernon drunk driving incident Lambert was charged again for driving while prohibited. Crown prosecutors also stayed this charge.
