VERNON - A Coldstream woman who narrowly escaped trial for careless driving after a crash that killed a four-year-old girl nearly three years ago, is now charged with impaired driving in Vernon.

Tanis Sunnie Lambert, 40, faces two charges, driving while impaired and driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of more than .08, for an incident that took place in Vernon Dec. 20, 2018.

Lambert was previously charged with careless driving following a collision May 6, 2016, where a truck she was driving struck and killed four-year-old Avayah (Avi) Toulon while crossing a Calgary Street with her parents Craig and Samantha Toulon, the Calgary Herald reported.

In October 2017 crown prosecutors withdrew the careless driving charge against Lambert at the beginning of the second day of the trial. The Herald reported the crown concluded there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction and withdrew the charge.

The Toulons launched a civil case against Lambert that was settled out of court May 25, 2018.

Lambert is scheduled to stand trial in Vernon July 25.
