Those itching to get out on their cross country skis will be glad to hear SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon will be opening some Nordic trails this weekend.

SilverStar has enough snow to open 25 kilometres of groomed and tracked Nordic trails on Saturday, Nov. 16, according to a media release.

"We are very excited to kick off the cross country ski season up here at SilverStar," SilverStar media relations manager Chantelle Deacon said in the release. "At this time, we will only be opening for the weekend, but there is a possibility we will stay open for cross country next week, weather depending. It looks like there is lots of snow in the forecast, so we are very hopeful that we will be able to stay open."

The cross country ski trails set to open are accessible from the village via Cross Mountain Trail or Pinnacles Trail near the Brewer's Pond Base.

As the lifts are still closed, SilverStar is recommending the trails only be used by intermediate and advanced cross-country skiers due to very long climbs.

With snow in this week's forecast the ski mountain has tentatively planned to open for alpine skiing on Nov. 28.
