NO BORED DAYS: It's the weekend of FESTS in Kamloops, Okanagan

The August long weekend is behind us but there are still many fun things left to do before the end of summer, including some popular festivals that are sure to draw in large crowds this weekend.

Penticton Peachfest is ready to get rocking with a lineup of performers including musical headliners like Kim Mitchell and 54-40, and 29 acts from across the valley. 

The five-day free festival is packed with daredevil entertainment performances, a sandcastle competition, and peach bin races to name a few. Thrill seekers can hop on the rides at the Shooting Star Amusement travelling carnival that will be set up on Martin Street and families might want to check out the Kids Zone at Gyro Park.

Peachfest 2023 runs from Aug. 9 to 13. Find the full schedule of events here. 

Festival LatinoAmericano del Okanagan is making its first run in Kelowna hosted by Salsa & Sabor Restaurant and Andres Lopez Entertainment . The event brings a variety of Latino businesses together to showcase themselves, share their stories with the community and enjoy traditional food at the Laurel Packing House on Ellis Street. A Latino party will follow into the wee hours.

“I’m so excited, there will be a live DJ, Latino food and dancing,” said organizer Jacqueline Jimenez. “We’re having salsa, samba and bando dancing competitions. We’ll have traditional foods and beer, mojitos and sangria.”

The festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug.12 and the Latin party runs from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Go here for more details and tickets.

In Vernon, elevated menus, wine tastings, entertainment and markets are on the menu for the second annual four-day Silver Star Wine Festival.

The signature event is the Walk-About Tasting where chefs pair foods with the finest wines from 30 BC wineries. The festival also features a selection of signature pairing dinners and brunches hosted by Silver Star's most renowned establishments. New this year are wine seminars led by industry experts where guests taste wine and learn about the latest trends.

Kamloops famous Ribfest is about get cooking with six ribbing teams competing for best ribs, best sauce and People’s Choice awards.

The three-day free festival in Riverside Park is packed with live entertainment, vendors and activities, including a Family Fun Zone and live music at the Rotary Bandshell. There is also a raffle worth over $15K in prizes.
