Next phase of Trans-Canada improvements begin in Shuswap

Construction to expand the Trans-Canada Highway to four-lanes between Ford Road and Tappen Valley Road in the Shuswap is expected to be complete by 2026.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has been working on a project to improve the highway between Kamloops and Alberta, and this is the next step.

Construction to expand the Trans-Canada Highway to four-lanes between Ford Road and Tappen Valley Road in the Shuswap is expected to be complete by 2026, according to a ministry press release issued, Oct. 6.

“Upgrading this portion of highway to four lanes and replacing the outdated infrastructure will allow traffic to move more safely and efficiently,” Minister of Transportation Rob Fleming said in the release.

The province has committed to spending $728 million over the next three years to improve the highway.

“Communities will be better connected, and businesses will be better able to move their products throughout the province and through BC,” Fleming said.

In addition to expanding the highway to four lanes ,the ministry will be replacing the Tappen Road overpass and adding a commercial vehicle pullout.

The highway improvements aim to make the Skwlax te Secwepemcu´l?ecw nation more accessible.

The ministry said it will make efforts to reduce the amount of traffic disruption during construction.
