KAMLOOPS - A Kamloops lawyer and Thompson Rivers University faculty member will be taking over as chair of the Interior Health Authority board in the new year.

John O’Fee will replace Erwin Malzer, who’s term ends Dec. 31, according to a media release.

O’Fee has held a variety of public offices, including school board chair, city councillor and regional district director.

Malzer has served as chair since January 2015. During his tenure he focused the board’s attention on moving health care from hospitals to primary care, technology and improving relations with the aboriginal community, according to the release.

“I have come to know John and appreciate his advice and perspective since he joined the board earlier this year,” Malzer says in the release. “I look forward to working closely with John over the next two months as I support him taking over this important role, and as I transition into new opportunities to serve our great province.”

O'Fee, a lawyer and faculty member at Thompson Rivers University, joined the board earlier this year.
