PENTICTON - A well known and highly respected Penticton educator will be honoured with the creation of a bursary in his name.

Donations are now being accepted for the Bruce Johnson bursary in the hope of handing out the award at this June’s graduation of Princess Margaret Secondary School students, where Johnson finished his career as principal.

“This one is not an academic focus. It’s focused on citizenship and contribution,” Johnson’s friend Gord McKay said. McKay is one of the organizers of the bursary, which will be administered by the Penticton Secondary School Bursary and Scholarship Foundation.

McKay says the best way to contribute to the bursary is to send a cheque to the foundation at 158 Eckhardt Ave. E., Penticton, V2A 1Z3.

Cash or cheque donations can also be dropped off at the Penticton Secondary School office.

Johnson died on March 19 following a battle with cancer. He worked for 34 years as a teacher and administrator in Penticton, following his career with two terms on the school board.
