More sunshine in store for the weekend in the Okanagan

It's shaping up to be a great weekend to head outdoors in the Okanagan.

OKANAGAN - The sunny skies and mild temperatures this week are expected to continue through the weekend and into next week in the Okanagan before rain creeps back into the forecast on Tuesday.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says to expect a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 15 Celsius today, Oct. 18, in the valley.

Tomorrow the forecast calls for a mainly sunny day with a high of 15 C. Sunday will be much the same, just slightly warmer, with a high of 16 C. Overnight lows on the weekend are not anticipated to dip below freezing levels.

Monday and Tuesday will see a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures in the mid-teens.

The warm daytime temperatures being experienced in the Okanagan over the past week have been offset by cool nights, resulting in daily average temperatures slightly above normal.

No temperature records have been broken in the Okanagan, Castellan says, noting previous record highs were in the 20 C range.

The strong ridge of high pressure dominating southern B.C. and the Okanagan is expected to begin breaking down around mid-week next week as the region transitions to a more active weather pattern, Castellan says, bringing a chance of rain, more clouds and wind.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of about 11 C and lows near 2 C.
