MONTREAL - A Montreal ambulance official says a woman has died strangled after an article of her clothing got caught in a subway escalator.

Bob Lamle says he has been told it appeared to be a scarf that became trapped in the escalator.

He says the woman was believed to be in her 40s.

She was found at the bottom of the escalator at the Fabre station in the city's north end.
