A Peachland mom just wants her daughter to have a way to celebrate her graduation.

Vangie Neyedli is organizing a grad walk for 2020 graduates that will take place at Ray Kandola Heritage Pier in Heritage Park at the end of the month in Peachland.

Graduation ceremonies and proms have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on social gatherings larger than 50 people.

“Her grad was supposed to be today,” Neyedli said. “We thought well let’s just do her and her closest friends and we’ll dress up.”

As she talked to people, they suggested opening it up to the public.

“It’s a free place so they can come and walk it. If there’s lots of people, how cool would that be? For families and grads to be able to walk and take some photos,” she said. “It was just something we wanted to do for our daughter.”

Neyedli posted the event in a Peachland neighbourhood group on Friday. She asks that people walk at a safe distance apart.

The event is scheduled for May 30 at 4 p.m. Her daughter Shenelle Neyedli, from Mount Boucherie Secondary, will be dressing up with her graduation outfit for the occasion.
