The mother of the two children who were the subject of an Amber Alert earlier this month has been charged, along with her boyfriend.

Court records show 45-year-old Verity Anne Bolton – the mother of the 8-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy who the subject of a July 19 Amber Alert – is facing two counts of abduction in contravention of custody order.

Before the kids were found, the RCMP said Bolton was believed to be with Abraxas Vianor Scherbing-Glazov, her boyfriend, and police described him as a 53-year-old outdoorsman who likes fishing and has a history of living off the grid for periods of time.

Glazov has been charged with two counts of abduction of person under 14.

During an update this afternoon, Surrey RCMP said the two children and three adults were located on a rural property outside of Edson, Alberta. Bolton and Glazov were charged and remain in custody. A third adult, presumably Bolton’s father – 74-year-old Robert Bolton – was detained.

The Amber Alert was active for 11 days, over which time 435 tips came in – one from as far away as New Brunswick.

“In each instance, local police were engaged and assisted in following up on the information,” according to the Surrey RCMP. “Our investigators remained open to all possibilities at every stage of the Amber Alert, and worked diligently around the clock to advance the investigation and bring these children home safely.”

The children were taken to a nearby RCMP detachment where their father was waiting. A full search of the rural property is scheduled to take place today.

The RCMP say they can only provide limit details because this matter is now before the courts.
