BAGHDAD - Iraqi officials say a wave of bombings targeting homes and emergency responders has killed 28 people north of Baghdad.
Police said bombs were planted around five houses in Taji, a Sunni town located 20 kilometres north of the capital, killing 17.
When rescue workers rushed to the scene to help, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-rigged belt. Eleven policemen died in the blast.
The casualties were confirmed by a medic at Kazimiyah hospital in northern Baghdad.
