BAR HARBOR, Maine - It's going to take more than a reservation to drive to the top of Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain this summer. A proposal would require motorists to pony up $6 per vehicle.
The reservation system, aimed at reducing vehicle congestion at one of Acadia’s most popular attractions, requires reservation holders to drive to the summit at specified times.
The National Park Service has not previously required reservations for the Cadillac summit road, nor has it charged private motorists a fee to do so, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Of the proposed $6 fee, $4 would go to the National Park Service and $2 would go toward the administrative costs of Recreation.gov, which is the online reservation service provider.
The reservation fee would be in addition to the park entrance fee, which varies from $15 to $55.
