A 54-year-old man on holidays with his family died after he slipped and fell into water falls in Yoho National Park late last week.
Golden-Field RCMP got an SOS alert from a satellite phone at around 1:20 p.m. Friday, June 16, saying the man had fallen into the water at the head of Takakkaw Falls and hadn’t surfaced.
RCMP and Parks Canada search and rescue responded and were on the scene until it became too dark to continue the search for the man, according to an RCMP media release.
“The water level is high this time of year, and the water pressure is violent, making recovery efforts very difficult,” RCMP said in the release.
Searchers returned the next morning and the body of the missing man was recovered around noon. RCMP called the incident a tragic accident.
BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation while victim’s services works with the man’s family.
The man’s identity has not been released.
