KAMLOOPS - Police in Kamloops have arrested a man outside the library downtown who happened to have a loaded rifle with him.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release crime reduction officers and the police dog service arrested a suspicious man outside of the library on Victoria Street and 5 Avenue in downtown Kamloops at approximately 2:20 p.m. today, Feb. 1.

Police didn't say what led to the initial arrest, but incidental to it, police found the suspect had a loaded rifle with him.

The 39-year-old man is previously known to police and is from Kamloops. He's expected to appear before a judge tomorrow.

Shelkie says Crown counsel will assess the evidence and determine if any charges will be laid.
