Man taken to hospital after reports of shots fired in Kamloops

A man in his 30s was found with life-threatening injuries after police responded to a residence early this morning where gun shots and screaming could be heard.

Officers got to the home just after midnight today, Aug. 18, according to a release from Kamloops RCMP.

Police arrived to find a man in his 30s suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound and a suspect allegedly ran towards a river.

“The investigation is still in its infancy and a visible police presence remains in the area while officers secure the scene, canvass the neighbourhood, and collect evidence that may be related,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

“We are requesting that residents please contact police as soon as possible if they have any security or dash camera footage from the area, or if they heard or saw anything that may be related.”

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team and the Police Dog Service Unit responded as well but no suspect has been located.

The Kamloops General Investigations Support Team, Serious Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Service Unit are all part of the investigation.

Police believe the shooting to be targeted.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference 2023-29729.
