Man reportedly struck by vehicle in Kamloops was actually shot

There’s a police presence on Highway 1 in Kamloops where a man was found with gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders tended to the 1800-block of the East Trans Canada Highway around 8:25 a.m. this morning, March 12, according to a media release from the Kamloops RCMP.

The victim was reported to have been struck by a vehicle, but upon investigation it turned out he was actually suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police believe the victim was targeted.

“A man known to police was taken to hospital with what appear to be non-life threatening injuries,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

“A police presence remains in the area as officers continue to collect evidence and information related to what transpired, including details about how the report came in and if a vehicle was present in the area.”

Anybody who can help with the investigation is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference 2023-8311.
