A climber that fell 40 feet from the South Okanagan's Skaha Bluffs earlier this month is facing life-changing injuries.

Ward Jensen was climbing the bluffs, July 5, when he fell and was seriously injured, according to a GoFundMe page started by his brother Brett Jensen.

“Ward is now facing a severe disability and a long, challenging recovery, with a further month or more in Vancouver General Hospital and then eight to nine months of rehabilitation,” he wrote.

Penticton Search and Rescue responded just before noon that day, to what they called a “tough rescue," with assistance from the Penticton Fire Department and B.C. Emergency Health Services.

Brett said Ward is a generous man who was helping his mother when she lost her mobility due to dementia and strokes.

“Ward decided he wanted to help others in similar situations, so he studied to become a care worker. Ward had just completed his training and was excited about starting at an aged care facility,” Brett wrote.

The GoFundMe will raise money for equipment like a wheelchair, ramps, home renovations and to support his wife during his recovery as they will have little to no income while he’s in the hospital, he said.
