VERNON - Police need help identifying an alleged honour box thief in Vernon with a taste for farm fresh eggs and organic meat.

According to the RCMP, a family farm on Redwing Road has been hit multiple times this summer by the same man.

On June 20, the farmers notified police that a man had gone into their honour system fridge and helped himself to a dozen eggs without putting payment in the jar, RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett says in a media release. About three days later, he came back and took more than $100 worth of organic meat, the owners told police.

“Since the first report made to police, the same male has returned to the property four additional times and collected various items from the fridge including meat and eggs, without leaving any sort of payment behind,” Brett says. “To a small local farm, thefts like this can be devastating and may jeopardize the way the farm continues to conduct business.”

Police are looking to identify the man in the surveillance footage. One photo provided of the man appears to contain the notes "Bandit- prefers smokies".

Brett says they have also identified an additional suspect in one of the farm thefts, however no photo was provided.

“We are confident with the media and public’s assistance we will be able to identify the male seen in the surveillance video,” Brett says.
