A man in Victoria decided the local Remembrance Day ceremony would be a good time and place to go on a tirade.

Screaming angrily at the top of his lungs, a man in front of the cenotaph in Victoria was recorded complaining about the War in Ukraine, Canada’s partnership with NATO, and something about Israel, Saudi Arabia and Africa.

“You show up every year for this bullshit but you don’t stop the wars…” the man yelled in a video posted by Hollie Ferguson, a Victoria News reporter, before two police officers whisked him away.

Aside from a few people recording the incident, the crowd of hundreds completely ignored the man.

Victoria police chief Del Manak said on Twitter it was “extremely disrespectful” to cause a disturbance at the ceremony.

Manak added the man fought with police officers who were escorting him away, spitting on one of them. He was arrested and is in police custody.

There were other protesters in the area, Manak said, but they were respectful of those attending the ceremony.

The man is facing charges of assaulting a police officer and mischief, according to a press release from the Victoria Police Department.

Remembrance Day disruptions were in problem in B.C. in 2021 as well but went off without a hitch yesterday in the Central Okanagan. A woman was charged in relation to a Remembrance Day disturbance in Kelowna last year. Her next court appearance is scheduled for later this week.
