KAMLOOPS - Representatives from Thompson Rivers University’s international department made a formal agreement with a Mexican university this month to provide students at both institutions more opportunities for research and exchange.

Baihua Chadwick, the associate vice present and CEO of TRU World Global Operations was in Acapulco June 16 to join Dr. Javier Saldaña from Universidad Autonoma de Guerrero in a signing ceremony.

“We will begin a new chapter for both universities starting this summer when the first group of five students from UAGRO will arrive at TRU,” Chadwick said. “We’ll be looking at the potential for pathway and visiting student agreements, faculty exchange and broader scientific, technical, and educational collaboration.”

The Mexican Guerrero-state university has over 60,000 students, 35,000 of which are high school students. Funding is available for 2,000 study abroad opportunities.

The agreement with TRU will permit students to apply for a Mexican federal government scholarship program which provides funding for up to 10,000 students learning English abroad.
