Look to the skies and you may notice a group of SpaceX satellites moving in tandem.

Oyama resident Cory Blasner spotted a group of Starlink satellites over Falkland last night, Sept. 17.

“I came outside and saw them and they just appeared in the sky and kept going and going,” he said, adding the show lasted for about 5 minutes at 9:30 p.m.

“Everyone was outside wondering what they were… and it was kind of cool to explain to people what they are.”

He finds the satellites fascinating and said this was the first time he saw them in the sky.

“It was really cool to see,” Blasner said.

Astronomy professor Aaron Boley, with UBC, said the image appeared to show a Starlink satellite train.

The satellites are usually seen a day or two after a launch and appear like lines of light moving across the sky. There are generally 46 or more satellites and once they move into their final orbit, they’re often too high in the atmosphere to see without aid, according to EarthSky.

The satellites provide internet access to more than 40 countries with little to no internet activity, according to Starlink. The satellites may also be seen tonight for a few minutes in the region.

Apps like Orbitrack can be downloaded by users to track satellites and other objects in the night sky.
