A Lake Country man had to wake up his wife to let her know he was $500,000 richer after scoring a Lotto Max Extra win earlier this month.
William McKay’s wife won’t soon forget the wake-up she received from her husband, Aug. 6, saying he was $500,000 richer thanks to the win in the Aug. 5 draw, according to a BCLC press release.
“I was sitting in my den checking the numbers from the night before on bclc.com,” he said, in the news release. “My first thought was, ‘I have to wake up my wife.’”

The Lake Country resident, who purchased his ticket from Save-On-Foods on Main Street, immediately woke up his wife to tell her the exciting news.
“She thought I was joking with her,” he said.
McKay celebrated his big win over a nice dinner with family and says his first purchase will be an electric car.
In addition to the car, McKay looks forward to continuing to enjoy his retirement, only now with an extra half a million in the bank, which he describes as “wonderful.”
“This win gives us a bit more variety and fun with our retirement and will let us travel more,” he said.
