KELOWNA – RCMP say an early morning fire behind a Kelowna business this morning is suspicious.

The fire started in a stack of wood pallets in the 1500 block of Gordon Drive around 4 a.m. today, Sept. 14.

Some residents in a nearby building were evacuated while firefighters put out the blaze.

A media release from RCMP says a man on a bicycle was seen in the area prior to the the fire and the police are interested in speaking with him.

“At this time, the Kelowna RCMP are not certain if there is a connection between the male on a bike and the fire, however the fire is suspicious and believed to be human caused,” Cpl. Tania Carrol says in the release.

There were no injuries and the damage to the building is not known at this time.

Anyone with any information about this fire, or if you saw anything suspicious in the area are urged to call Cst. Steve MCBRIDE of the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
