Kelowna police involved in hour-long chase with ATV stolen from dealership

Two Oliver men lead police on a dangerous chase through Kelowna yesterday afternoon on an ATV stolen from a local dealership.

At 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of theft from a car dealership located in the 3500 Block of Spectrum Court in Kelowna, according to an RCMP media release.

Two suspects visited the dealership and expressed interest in a 2022 Polaris RZR Side by Side ATV.

While inspecting the ATV, the two individuals seated themselves in the passenger and drivers seat.

Then, without warning, they sped out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

Over the next hour, the two suspects were seen racing through Kelowna in the stolen vehicle. They drove without caution and were showing a complete disregard for other vehicles on the highway.

Their reckless behaviour included driving into oncoming traffic and crashing through several private property fences.

The AIR 4 RCMP helicopter was sent out to track the suspects down.

The helicopter located the ATV and directed ground units to its position.

One of these units included the RCMP Police Dog Service, which led to both suspects being apprehended on foot near Pyman Road after the ATV had rolled in rough terrain.

“The use of both the RCMP Air Service and RCMP Police Dog Service proved invaluable in swiftly recovering the stolen property and apprehending the suspects without any injuries,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer with the Kelowna RCMP said in the release:

Both suspects are from Oliver.

Now, they both face multiple charges under the Criminal Code and BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300, referencing file number 2023-59231.
