Kelowna, Kamloops set to topple all-time high temperature records

Daily heat records toppled across B.C. Saturday, and more will fall in the days to come.

But it's some all-time records that will really turn heads.

Bobby Sekhon, meteorologist for Environment Canada, said that Kamloops has hit a peak temperature of 41.7 C twice in its history — on July 16 1941 and then also, July 27 1939. That record is poised to fall today.

Kelowna's all-time high temperature is 41 C, which was reached Aug. 4, 1998. Yesterday reached 38.,9 C.

"We will see the heat kind of peak on a Tuesday and then we have a bit of a trough moving through northern BC which is going to bring in less hot air," Sekhon said.

"I'll refrain from saying cooling, but it'll give a bit of a reprieve, however, temperatures will still be five to 12 C above average, even late this week."

As we move into next week, there's a possibility of things getting back down to about average temperatures, however, it's really uncertain, Sekhon said.

"It's, it's quite possible that for the next couple of weeks we might be seeing at least somewhat above average temperatures, maybe not record breaking but above average," he said.

"For the whole summer in general, we're predicting above average temperatures, but again, we can't really say that there's going to be another heatwave coming up or there's going to be more record breaking temperatures later this summer."
